Does anybody know how is it that Chet Baker has a new album? The guitar player is Philip Catherine, but no amount of searching seems to reveal the pianist or when and where it was recorded. Baker died in 1988 presumably in a fall from a second-story apartment while high. Holy grail-grade piano sonics.

Young Man has one of those arresting moments in the chorus where you look in the mirror and the person looking back has suddenly aged 20 years.

Phoenix would have benefitted from having the word "phoenix" at the end of the chorus instead of the beginning, but is good nonetheless.

Andrew Gabbard is consistently good at both writing and recording. Our Dream is a meticulously constructed break-up song in the Beatles tradition (it doesn't hurt Gabbard has a very Lennon-y voice).

Oh god, Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard. The most subversive lyrics combined with some of the best power pop going.

It is cinematic in scope and will take you to a hundred different places and offer you a slightly different local Mezcal in each. Erin Rae makes her third appearance on PBNSOTW with Kevin Morby doing co-lead. Can't See Stars is a simple thought expressed well, although I could have wished for something other than pedal steel to provide texture. The Matterhorn

When I was 11 my parents dropped me off at Disneyland with a friend. Roll your eyes if you must when I say it was different back then, but, well—it was different back then. As kids of course we loved it: we weren’t “little kids” any more, whatever that means. By some obscure evaluation we had been found qualified to look after ourselves in an amusement park with thousands of other humans. We blasted past Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln (who wants to waste a precious 45 minutes waiting in line to watch a robot? Although the lighting and the Gettysburg sound effects were pretty cool.) and made immediately for the Matterhorn to get on when the line was at its shortest. One of the things you’re really good at when you’re 11 is running through crowds of adults and small children moving slowly in a limited area.
